The Deira Cardigan features unusual construction and provides lots of visual interest with a textured pattern, worked in different directions.
The cardigan is worked flat sideways from the center out towards the sides. The side seams are worked with 3-needle bind off. Sleeves are worked in the round from the top down. The hem is picked up and knit from the top down.

Since the cardigan is worked sideways, the row gauge is very important.
Notes
- The cardigan is worked flat sideways from the center out towards the sides (please see the diagram on page 8). The side seams are worked with 3-needle bind off. Sleeves are worked in the round from the top down. The hem is picked up and knit from the top down.
- A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
- Read RS (odd-numbered) chart rows from right to left; read WS (zero and even-numbered) chart rows from left to right.
- The “right” or “left” directions always refer to wearer’s right or left, rather than the piece in relation to you when knitting.
Difficulty: Intermediate.
Pattern Style: both written and charted instructions using standard knitting abbreviations. The stitch pattern is written and charted.
